Why use a staffing agency?

What is the benefit of a staffing agency?

Staffing agencies provide a service that benefits both employers and employees.

Employees can generally find a job within a short period of time. It is also a possible way of getting a foot in the door for a full-time, permanent position.

Employers can get a position filled so the work is getting done and eliminate the time of pre-screening and interviewing a multitude of candidates.

EVERYONE benefits!  It’s a win-win situation.

What should I expect when applying to AmeriStaff?

AmeriStaff screens and interviews many job seekers so we can match them with jobs. We have clients looking for employees with specific skills, work ethic, and/or shift preferences.  We are able to get your application or resume in front of employers you may not even know about.

What should I expect in my interview or visit?

When you walk into AmeriStaff, a recruitment specialist will greet you and ask you to fill out pre-employment paperwork which will include pre-employment tests to assess your skills.  If your application has not been completed online prior to your interview, we will ask you to do that in our office.   It’s important to include your work history on your application as it helps to highlight your strengths. You should bring your IDs and your resume if you have one. If you do not have a resume, and the position you’re well suited for requires a resume, we may help you create one.  A drug screen and a background check are required for all employment candidates.

Your interview with AmeriStaff will be much like an interview with a prospective employer. We will ask you questions about your employment history and about circumstances under which you left previous jobs. Just be honest and tell us as much as possible about your work history. We want to help you improve your chances of getting a job so we will advocate on your behalf.

What will my schedule be like?

When you work for AmeriStaff, we try to match you with something in your area of expertise.  Alternatively, we ask that you call us on a regular basis to check for available jobs.

Be prepared to answer these common questions about what kind of schedule you would like:

  • Are you available on weekends?
  • Do you want to work strictly days, nights or are you available anytime?
  • Is there a particular geographical area where you would prefer to work?

Schedules can fluctuate and may be unpredictable until you are on a project or job with a company.  We may call you at any moment and on short notice to go for an interview at one of the companies we work with.

How does the pay work?

AmeriStaff will pay you while you’re working as a temporary or temp-to-hire employee for our client.

Is it better for the company to hire workers from a staffing agency or hire them on their own?

Companies get certain advantages by using AmeriStaff.  We eliminate the burden of figuring and withholding employment taxes. In addition, our clients don’t have to worry about paying benefits, such as health insurance, unemployment, or vacation.  AmeriStaff takes care of all of that for the employee and the employer.

What if the company I temp with wants to hire me full-time?

If your skills are matched well enough to the company where you are working as a temporary employee, you may be fortunate enough to be offered permanent employment with our client. The company will contact us where you’re employed and inform us that they want to hire you.

Some of our clients use our services to test employees before deciding whether to hire them or not. When they decide they want to do so, you convert to our client’s payroll as a permanent employee.

How do I create a resume?

Writing your first resume can seem like a chore, but having one will make you stand out! It doesn’t have to be fancy. Here are some tips to take the guesswork out of resume-writing:

  1. Font Size and Style – use something simple like Arial or Times New Roman. Use a bigger font for headings but try to stick with a 10-point font size for the body of your resume.
  2. Contact Information – Choose a larger font size for your name (try 14-point or 16-point). A mailing address is not necessary, but make sure to include your phone number and email address. Also, make sure to list an email address that is professional (yourname2016@email.com for example).
  3. Objective – Include your objective if you ‘re interested in a specific industry or field, or target the objective to the position to which you’re applying.
  4. Experience – Be sure to include the name of the company along with the city and state where you worked. Include the month and year that you were hired through the month and year that you left. Start with your most recent job first. Be sure to include ways in which you used problem solving, communication skills, and job-specific skills. Don’t have on-the-job experience yet? List any volunteer work or internships instead.
  5. Skills – Include any special skills you have that are relevant to the job (computer skills, a skilled trade certification, machine or equipment operation, etc)
  6. Education – Include the last school you attended, the city and state, and the years you attended the school.
  7. References – Have a list of 3 references available.
